Net Zero by 2050.
As companies of Schwarz Group, our jointly set goal is to do business sustainably on an ongoing basis. This includes taking a clear stand on climate protection and scientifically based climate targets. We therefore joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) back in 2020 and set ourselves validated targets. Now we are taking the next logical step by jointly submitting an official net-zero commitment. As such, we are committing ourselves to reducing all greenhouse gases emitted within each of our own companies and along the value chain to net zero by 2050 at the latest.
With our jointly developed climate strategy, we are making a scientifically based contribution to limiting global warming. For example, we are working on constantly reducing our respective operational emissions as well as emissions in the upstream and downstream value chain.
We Are Setting Out on the Road to Net Zero.
To put words into action, we are planning to cut our direct and indirect emissions considerably. Our new jointly set, near-term reduction targets were validated by the SBTi.
By 2030, we will reduce all direct and indirect operational emissions by 48 percent (scope 1 and 2). Furthermore, we are supplementing our existing, jointly developed supplier obligations with absolute reduction targets in the upstream and downstream supply chain (scope 3) by 2034.
We are reducing indirect land and forestry emissions by 42.4 percent (FLAG emissions – FLAG stands for forest, land and agriculture).
We are reducing indirect emissions in the area of energy and industrial processes by 35 percent (E&I emissions – these stand for energy and industry).
Our jointly submitted net-zero commitment is a important element of our comprehensive, jointly developed sustainability strategy.
The companies of Schwarz Group rely on manifold measures ranging from the climate-friendly design of our assortment to low-emission mobility and logistics solutions through to sustainable construction, and the use of energy efficiency measures and renewable energies.
Together for More Climate Protection
Climate protection is a collective task that demands the commitment of everyone. The companies of Schwarz Group are increasing the awareness of their respective employees, customers and partners regarding the importance of sustainable action and are encouraging them to take an active part in the change. Whether through conscious purchase decisions or, the choice of products that are more climate-friendly - every action counts and contributes to climate protection.
In the course of the S3 initiative, we are working together closely with approximately 1,000 suppliers to produce merchandise that is low in emissions to the greatest possible extent. By means of the S3 initiative, we support suppliers with the highest product-related emissions to set themselves climate targets in accordance with the criteria of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) by 2026. Through training courses and empowerment measures, the aim is to design all of the supply chains in a more climate-friendly manner.
By acting ahead and through their jointly developed sustainability strategy, the companies of Schwarz Group are making a significant contribution to creating a future worth living in for generations to come – for a sustainable world that we are creating in the here and now.
